Leader in innovative coding & robotics training

The Innovative Coding and Robotics Educentre (iCARE) was founded in 2019 by a teen with a passion for coding and robotics and who understands first-hand challenges and missed opportunities experienced but youth in many communities.

The iCARE centre aims to bridge the gap particularly in the Johannesburg South region where there is limited access to coding and robotics training for the youth and provide educational component robotics and STEAM education platforms. The name of the centre was born from a robot developed by the founder of the establishment. Stemming from the name our mission is caring for the future generation and ensuring that they are future fit for the 4th industrial revolution. We encounter technology in our daily lives and thus it only makes sense to give children the tools that are developmentally appropriate, that encourage open-ended play and that allow the integration of technical skills with expressive arts and other STEAM disciplines. Children learn best when playing and when learning is fun.  In this manner they cultivate their curiosity for the technological world, explore problem solving and understand concepts such as sequencing, cause-and-effect, programming, sensors and motors. In this way children are thought how to think and not what to think.

Much has been said about the 4th industrial revolution, and there is little doubt that the jobs of tomorrow do not exist today, with drone technology, 3D printing and autonomous cars. Therefore, by providing coding and robotics we will empower kids to understand, plan, design, engineer, programme and control bots to safeguard jobs of tomorrow. The lessons create a perfect combination of fun and imagination that can help expand childrens’ creative thinking and problem solving abilities. The senior robotics classes put the engineering design process to work, where learners plan, design, build, operate, and modify their own robotic creations. Robot design and computer programming is done using basic machine principles, Basic Stamp, Arduino, Rasbian and Java coding languages and platforms.

Our tutors are trained on the relevant material and are skilled and competent in their respective training areas. They’ve undergone training by Lego® Education and the University of Johannesburg. Our tutors are young and energetic and are eager to engage with curious and enquiring minds from grades 4 to 12 and beyond.
